What are go links?

A go link is a short, memorable name for a page your team uses. Typego/handbookin the address bar and you land on the handbook, wherever it lives this quarter. No bookmarks to share, no hunting through chat for "that link someone posted". SlashGo calls them /go links.

The idea

Every team has a handful of pages everyone needs and nobody can find: the on-call schedule, the deploy dashboard, this quarter's OKRs, the wifi password. Their URLs are long, they change, and they live in five different tools.

A go link gives each one a plain name. go/oncall,go/deploys,go/okrs. The name is the shared vocabulary: you say it in a meeting, write it on a whiteboard, drop it in a message, and everyone gets to the same place. When the page moves, one person updates the link and every reference keeps working.

Go links are not public short links. They're for your team's own docs and tools, and only signed-in teammates can open them.

Where they came from

Go links are most often associated with Google, where typing go/and a name became a well-known part of working inside the company. People who left took the habit with them, and plenty of other companies have since built or bought their own version.

Inside a large company, go links usually run on internal infrastructure that an IT or platform team looks after. Most smaller teams don't have that, which is the gap SlashGo is built for.

How SlashGo resolves a /go link

A bare go/ isn't a real web address, so something on your machine has to recognize it. With SlashGo that's a browser extension, so there's no network setup.

The extension

Install it for Chrome or Firefox. It recognizes go/name in the address bar and sends you to the link, before the request ever leaves your browser.

Search fallback

If the browser turns go/name into a Google or Bing search instead, the extension catches that too and takes you to the link.

The go keyword

Type go, a space and the name in the address bar. Handy when you're already mid-thought.

Any browser, no extension

slashgo.io/go/name opens the same link anywhere, phones included, once you've signed in.

Variables: one link, every ticket

End a name with /$ and it takes whatever you type after it. Create go/jira/$ pointing at your ticket URL with a$ where the ticket number goes, and every ticket has a name.

/go links by team

Start with the pages people ask for most. A dozen good names usually covers the first week.

Who SlashGo is for

Teams that want /go links without an IT project or a per-seat invoice.

Founders and small companies

Sign up, create the first links, share one start link. Free while you're small, flat-priced when you're not.

Studios and agencies

One name per client folder, board or brief, so whoever picks up the work finds it.

One team in a bigger company

Run /go links for your own team on a departmental card. If IT wants in later, they can force-install the Chrome extension.

Common questions

What is a go link?

A short, memorable name for a page your team uses, like go/handbook. Type it in the browser's address bar and you land on the page behind it. If the page moves, someone updates the go link once and the name keeps working for everyone.

Is a go link the same as a short link?

No. A short link is a public URL you put on a poster or in a campaign. A go link is a private name your team types to reach its own docs and tools, and only signed-in teammates can open it.

Do go links need special network or DNS setup?

Not with SlashGo. The Chrome or Firefox extension recognizes go/name in the browser before the request leaves your machine, so there's no DNS or proxy to configure. Without the extension, slashgo.io/go/name opens the same link in any browser.

Do go links work on phones?

Phone browsers can't run the extension, so typing go/name won't work there. slashgo.io/go/name does, once you've signed in.

What does a /go link with a variable do?

A name ending in /$ takes whatever you type after it. Point go/jira/$ at yourco.atlassian.net/browse/$ and go/jira/ENG-123 opens ticket ENG-123. One link covers every ticket.

How much does SlashGo cost?

Free for teams up to 10, and nothing breaks if you grow past that. Pro is $5/mo flat for the whole team, not per seat. See pricing.

Give your team its first /go link

Free for teams up to 10, then $5/mo flat. Setup takes about five minutes, and Free never asks for a card.
